Details

Description:Part of BOK's Urban Series, with 10 events held most Wednesday evenings from late April to early July. Short, Medium and Long courses available. Best 6 results on each course score for series prizes, with separate male and female competitions. This week there is also a Junior course. Juniors (under 16) can only compete on the Junior course: The Junior course is entirely contained within the grounds of the playing fields and open ground around the Ridings and, therefore, will not entail interacting with any busy roads. The Short course should be suitable for adult beginners, orienteering either as individuals or as part of a group, or with those orienteers with maturity on their side or who may be in the process of recovering from injuries.

Courses

Course description:Map: The Longer courses (Long & Medium) will use an updated version of Paul Gebbett’s map from 2022 “Chipping Sodbury West & Yate South East” 1:5,000 with 2.5m contours. This map will be in A3 Portrait format. The Short & Junior courses will be confined to the new map produced by David Faulkner “The Ridings, Chipping Sodbury” 1:4,000 with 5m contours. This map will be in SRA4 Portrait format. The Long and Medium courses will also use elements of this map (in which case their maps will be printed on both sides). Both maps will be waterproof with control descriptions and courses overprinted. Additionally, loose control descriptions will also be available at the Start. Newcomers are advised to familiarise themselves with uncrossable features and out of bounds (OOB) symbols. If in doubt, you should ask at Assembly. https://www.maprunner.co.uk/map-symbols/ Terrain: Urban footpaths, residential streets, playing fields and other grass/unpaved areas. Road shoes with good grips (but not spikes), running shorts and vests should be suitable. The Long & Medium courses will have route choices which will include busy roads and roads with limited pavements in some places. To get across some of the busy roads in the area there will be at least one timed out crossing These will be clearly marked on the map and in the control description list and must be complied with. Participants must take extra care for road traffic when running on roads where there is limited to no pavement, and not take undue risk when crossing, particularly on blind corners or busy roads.
